Home sweet home

November 2019 marked the sixth month that hubby and I had lived in our motorhome full-time. I must admit that, as I watched the weather change outside our window and prepared for the holidays, time passed much more quickly than I’d imagined. Before I knew it, I was boxing up Christmas and preparing for the journey ahead. Ever grateful for the time to adjust to living compact, I felt confident in my ability to travel down the road and to handle whatever obstacles crossed my path.

To say the least, the first six months were quite the learning experience. Here’s what I learned in that period of time:

  • A rig’s space is someone’s castle – respect all physical, virtual, and perceived boundaries
  • Breaks and malfunctions are inevitable; put money aside to cover emergency repairs
  • Nearly everything can be found on Amazon, Google, and YouTube
  • There are more people out there, doing what we’re doing, than we realize – connect with them, ask questions, learn things
  • RVers are friendly folk – there’s someone in the park/campground knowledgeable enough and willing to help out
  • Weather is a beautiful and scary thing – respect it, keep track of it, and know how to get out of it or stay ahead of it
  • It’s possible for two people to share 365 sq. ft. of living space and still like each other
  • Headphones are great for creating personal space
  • RVing makes food taste better!
  • A campfire, a blanket, and a cup of coffee (or wine) can set anything right
  • WiFi and cell phone connections are only as important as your need to connect. If plugging in is a requirement (job, family, blogging, streaming, etc.), invest wisely.
  • We don’t need as much stuff as we think we do
  • Organization is the key to happiness – who knew little plastic boxes could be so exciting?
  • The majority of pastimes – books, music, movies, photos, journals, puzzles, recipes, planners, games – can be stored on a space-saving electronic device
  • Making mistakes is inevitable, but those mistakes also lead to valuable lessons and a wealth of information
  • Tiny black ants are the bane of my existence
  • Vinegar has become my best friend

Oh, and…

  • Does making the bed seriously have to be that hard??!!
